KUALA LUMPUR: Former PKR Youth chief Ezam Mohd Noor, who rejoined Umno after two years and MIC deputy president, Datuk G. Palanivel were sworn in as senators on Monday.
Ezam, 43, told reporters that he would continue his struggle for reform and fight corruption.
Ezam, who was once PKR adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s political secretary in the late 1990s, left PKR in 2007, rejoined Umno more than a year later and has actively campaigned against Anwar since.
Meanwhile, Palanivel, 61, who was dropped as Barisan Nasional candidate at the recent Hulu Selangor by-election, said that he had been initially reluctant to accept the post but did so after discussions with MIC President Datuk S. Samy Vellu.
Palanivel was Hulu Selangor MP for four terms and deputy minister for women, family and community development before he was defeated in the 2008 elections.
The others who were sworn is senators were Rahim & Co executive chairman, Datuk Abdul Rahim Abdul Rahman, and Pagoh Wanita Umno chief, Noriah Mahat.
